The Public Administration department (PADM) received a $2 million gift this spring from the Estate of Charldean Newell, a former faculty member and renowned scholar. The endowed funds will support graduate student scholarships.
The department will plant a tree and dedicate a granite plaque in honor of Newell at a ceremony November 11. Friends of the college are welcome to attend.
“This substantial contribution will help to ensure that the UNT MPA program continues to educate top notch public servants,” said Abraham David Benavides, Ph.D., chair of the department.
Newell taught in the Department of Political Science from 1965 to 1992 and served in various administrative positions. In 1992 she joined the new Department of Public Administration as a regents professor and served until 2002.
