About Our Program

The program is designed to provide a broad foundation in health care delivery systems; management strategies; ethical and legal issues in the healthcare environment; the role of Information systems and technology in high quality and efficient care delivery; marketing health services; and in the principles of sound financial management. The program is comprised of 39 credit hours or 13 courses that encompasses health services administration. 

Employment in health services management is expected to grow by 32 percent in the coming decade. Health Services Administration graduates can find opportunities in numerous fields. These include: hospital administration, consulting, health policy, health information systems, maternal and child care, long-term care, pharmaceuticals, and project management. This degree can also be a valuable asset for mid-career professionals looking to move up within a traditional health care system.

While the program offers many of the courses in-person the program is also delivered entirely online. Students completing the program entirely online will find a high level of interaction with faculty and your classmates. We have found this emphasis on networking to be crucial for an improved exchange of ideas and to help our students explore areas that interest them most.

Health Services Administration MS Application Process

Application Deadlines

The Health Services Administration MS program has summer, fall and spring admissions. Applications are accepted and processed on a rolling basis throughout the semester. The application cycle for Summer 2024 will close on May 1, 2024. The application cycle for Fall 2024 will close on August 1, 2024. All application materials must be turned into the Department of Rehabilitation & Health Services (RHS) by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the application deadline.

Three-Step Application Process
The application process for the Health Services Administration MS is a three-step process. The first two steps are completing two separate applications. After these applications have been processed, you may be invited to interview as part of the third step.


1. Application to Toulouse Graduate School

Applicants must apply to and be accepted by UNT’s Toulouse Graduate School. Applicants typically have a 3.0 GPA or higher on the last 60 undergraduate semester hours from their bachelor’s degree, or at least a 3.4 on a completed master’s degree. Applicants with lower GPAs may be considered by individual review. In order to apply to the graduate school, you will need to submit:

2. Application to Rehabilitation and Health Services Department

Students must also apply to the department. Students can work on application steps 1 & 2 at the same time. Items you will need for step 2 to apply to the department include:

Your Self-Statement should be a double-spaced, typed essay outlining your academic interests, career goals, and how the program meets your needs. The statement will need to be emailed to: hlsv-applications@unt.edu.

One professional letter is required from current or past employer, professor, or community leader, and should be submitted on appropriate letterhead with a signature. The letter should be emailed by your recommender to: hlsv-applications@unt.edu

 

3. Interview with the Health Services Administration Faculty

Once the department has received all of your application materials, qualified applicants may be contacted to set-up an admissions interview. Interviews will either be conducted over the phone or through Zoom. This program is offered online and in-person.

1. Mission

      The mission of the Masters in Health Services Administration is to provide our diverse group of early career professionals with a graduate education that will further their careers as health care leaders and innovators. The MHSA program prepares students to successfully deal with numerous challenges confronting healthcare organizations and leaders in a future characterized by changing economic incentives and interdependent relationships between healthcare providers, payers, and purchasers. After completing the program graduate are prepared to advance their careers or seek employment in entry level or mid-level management jobs in a variety of healthcare organizations including hospitals, health systems, ambulatory care facilities, home health providers, hospices, pharmaceutical firms, and other healthcare related organizations. The MHSA program consists of four highly qualified diverse core faculty members and a variety of adjunct faculty members who teach, do research and provide service with regard to their roles.
