Application Deadlines

• In Fall 2025, applications for admission to the Fall 2026 first year cohort of the University of North Texas Doctor of Audiology program will be accepted beginning September 2, 2025. All required application materials must be submitted no later than January 9, 2026.  Materials submitted after January 9, 2026 will be subject to rejection by the admissions committee.

The University of North Texas Doctor of Audiology Program application process is competitive, and applying for the program does not guarantee acceptance or admission.  The admissions committee considers several factors, including overall GPA, last 60 hours GPA, GRE scores, Letters of Recommendation, and Personal Statements to rank applicants.  Highly-ranked applicants will be offered an interview which will also be factored into applications. GPA Requirements

Applicants will be required to submit all official transcripts from all universities attended (both undergraduate and graduate transcripts, including community college transcripts)

• Both overall grade point average (GPA) and last 60 hours GPA will be scored and considered for admission into the program.
• While there is no minimum required GPA for admission into the program, scores between 3.0 and 4.0 will have a competitive advantage over those with lower GPAs. This advantage will be greater as GPAs increase.

Required Degree

A bachelor’s degree in any field of study will be required for admission into the program.

• Regardless of undergraduate field of study, all students begin the program taking introductory audiology courses meant to build a strong foundation of knowledge necessary to be successful in this program.

Prerequisites

There are no required prerequisites for this program.

Paragraph of Intent (250-word limit)

• Share an event in your life that helped impact your decision to pursue a degree in audiology.

Personal Statement (1,000-word limit)

• Please describe your professional goals and your preparation for graduate study in audiology.

All written passages, including but not limited to, personal statements, paragraphs of intent, and descriptions of work and education activities and events, must be your own work, and not written, in whole or in part, by any other person or any generative artificial intelligence platform, technology, system, or process, including but not limited to ChatGPT (collectively, “Generative AI”).  The admissions committee reserves the right to use platforms, technology, systems, and processes that detect content that were created, written, and/or modified, in whole or in part, through the use of Generative AI.

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required.

• It is preferred that these letters of recommendation be written and sent by individuals who are familiar with your academic background and who can attest to your aptitude for challenging graduate-level academic work, or by audiologists who have supervised you in a clinical environment.  Recommendations from individuals outside of academia (e.g., employers, community leaders) should be limited to one letter, and may be weighted differently based on its relevance to academic-specific information.

GRE Requirements

All applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) — Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing subtests — and to report all their GRE scores to UNT--Denton(ETS Code 6481). We recommend you begin taking the GRE during the summer before you intend to apply, as this will provide you with ample time to retake the exam if you choose to do so. If you take the GRE multiple times, your highest scores will be considered in your application. We consider any scores above the 50th percentile to be competitive. Percentile ranks and their corresponding numeric scores can be located on the ETS website (ets.org). 

• Applicants who took the GRE within five years of the time of their application do not need to re-take the GRE for application to UNT.  Because ETS maintains score reports up to five years after the time of testing, the applicant should contact ETS to request that score reports be sent to UNT. 
• Applicants who took the GRE over five years before the time of their application will be unable to request that ETS submit their scores to UNT.  Applicants who took the GRE more than five years ago and who have the original hard copy ETS score report in their possession may submit these scores for consideration by taking the original hard copy ETS score report, in person, to the Division of Enrollment - Admissions.  Those applicants who took the GRE more than five years ago but who do not have the original hard copy ETS score report in their possession will be required to re-take the GRE and to submit the new GRE scores to Division of Enrollment - Admissions as part of their application.  

Experience

While audiology specific training, work, and/or research experience may strengthen your application packet, these experiences are not required to be considered for admission.
