What is the Title IV-E Program?
The Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Program is a joint project with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Child Protective Services, and the University of North Texas.
UNT receives a grant from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) to educate and train social work students to become professional child protective specialists, helping children and families who experience child abuse and neglect.
An educational stipend is available to eligible undergraduate applicants in exchange for a commitment to complete a social work field placement within a Child Protective Services conservatorship unit and acceptance of employment upon graduation.

Application Process
Title IV-E Child Welfare Students must:
- Successfully complete SOWK4700, Child Welfare Theory, Practices and Services as well as all other courses required for a BSW degree.
- Attend the IV-E Field Orientation Seminar held the semester before entering field placement.
- Be eligible for graduation with a BSW degree at end of the field placement semester.
- Complete the Title IV-E application packet.
- Pass criminal history, TDFPS, Child Abuse Registry, and driving record checks.
- Pass the TDFPS pre-employment written assessment
- Complete a pre-employment interview with TDFPS.
- Contract with TDFPS/CPS for employment upon graduation from UNT.
