Aecio Borba, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Aecio (Ace) Borba is a psychologist and behavior analyst who earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology: Behavior Theory and Research in 2013. Starting in 2008, he was also a professor at Universidade Federal do ParĂ¡ (Brazil), working in Clinical Behavior Analysis and Behavior Analysis's perspective on Culture and Social Issues. He moved to UNT in 2024 as an associate professor with the Department of Behavior Analysis.

Primary Research Interests:

I research the processes involved in situations where one person's good (what we may call selfish or impulsive behavior) conflicts with the choices that will produce good for the larger group, community, or culture. This conflict between contingencies, what we may call "social dilemmas" or "social traps,"  is the basis of many social issues we face today, from climate change and sustainability to corruption. I address those issues in conceptual, experimental (lab), and translational studies.

Other Information:

In my free time, I am also an amateur horror and fantasy writer, photographer, and full-time nerd. I traveled a lot and signed way too many waivers to transfer to myself the responsibility of injury, dismemberment, or death in the stuff I was doing (like shark cage-diving).
