HPS social work assistant professor selected for prestigious 2022 Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program to Norway
Dr. Sarah Moore is one of only 15 faculty from around the nation chosen for the elite opportunity.
DENTON (UNT), Texas – Dr. Sarah Moore, assistant professor in the University of North Texas College of Health and Public Service Department of Social Work will spend June 15-July 17 in Norway learning about Norwegian history, culture, politics and public institutions, including its hallmark “cradle to grave” welfare state.
“My research focuses on helping social workers understand how to provide better social work services to immigrants, and how to emphasize reciprocal relationships and cultural humility when we do social work across cultures or borders. So, I’m especially excited to learn first-hand about Norway’s response to increasing immigration and unprecedented cultural and ethnic diversity,” Dr. Moore said.
Dr. Cindy Watson, senior lecturer in the College of Science, also was selected.
The Seminars Abroad Program is administered by the U.S. Department of Education’s International and Foreign Language Education office, Office of Postsecondary Education, in cooperation with the U. S. Department of State. The program provides travel and living expenses for US educators in social sciences and humanities to study abroad so they can improve their understanding of other cultures.
