UNT alumni establish scholarship to support HPS students

The Klutts Family Scholarship will be open to graduate and undergraduate students with financial need.

DENTON (UNT), Texas – A new scholarship has been established for HPS students by UNT College of Health and Public Service alumni, Ben and Angie Klutts. The couple pledged $50,000 to support first-generation students, who demonstrate the need for financial assistance, have been with the university for at least one year, and have maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Ben Klutts graduated from the UNT criminal justice program in 2002 and went on to serve as an officer in his hometown of Rockwall, Texas. Angie Klutts, M.Ed., BCBA, LBA, first graduated in 2003 from UNT with her undergraduate degree in sociology and went on to obtain her graduate degree in education, with an emphasis on behavior analysis, from the university in 2005. Angie worked in the public education system for 10 years, where she began as a teacher and went on to be an Instructional Specialist. It was during this time that she knew there was a bigger purpose and a dream that both she and her husband, Ben, shared. Together, the two opened their own company, Behavioral Transformations in 2015, which serves as a therapy center for ABA, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling services for communities in the DFW area. Currently, both serve and support UNT on various boards in the college.

Angie, a first-generation graduate herself, knows personally the impact it will have on a person’s life.

“We want to give someone the opportunity to beat the statistics and change their life for the better, just like I did,” says Angie Klutts.

The scholarship will give one student per school year the opportunity to move forward with their education, when financial obstacles may stand in their way.

“If we can help one person break the cycle, this scholarship is more than worth it,” Ben Klutts said.
